News from the Missions/Outreach Committee

Thank you for your support of the Habitat for Humanity, the Mission Emphasis for September. Founded in Americus, Georgia in the early 1970's, and based on the concept of building affordable housing with prospective owners working side by side with volunteers.

The mission emphasis for the month of October is our long time friend, Signs of Hope. As you will probably remember, Signs of Hope is a facility/ministry for deaf and disabled adults of all ages located on Harper Road right here in Kerrville.

The facility offers both living quarters and recreational opportunities for their residents and involves them, as much as possible, in the operation of the properties. Residents are given life skills training and loving companionship by a trained and caring staff and are involved in the community around them as appropriate, sometimes even holding part time jobs. Signs of Hope is a wonderful ministry making a huge difference in the lives of those it serves. Our altar offerings and designated giving for the month of October will go to this great organization.

I thank one and all for your continued support of this wonderful mission organization.

Blessings,
Dave Rush
Missions Chair

Some of our global mission support has included direct contributions to several missionaries, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, Society of St. Andrew Hunger Relief, Health and First Aid Kits to immigrant detainees and various clothing drives.

In addition to our numerous missions supported as a church, our Christ Crew youth group is a very service oriented youth group. They do various fundraising such as a bake sale to raise money for the UMCOR flood buckets to help those affected by flooding in Sonora, TX and in the Carolinas after Hurricane Florence. They continue to help with rebuilding efforts from Hurricane Harvey by doing 1-2 mission trips a year to help rebuild houses in the affected areas. Their summer mission trip for 2019 is to Eagle Pass to put together bunk beds made by the youth and mission committee. They will also do a 2 day mini VBS for the local children's center while in Eagle Pass.
